Certified Environmental, Safety and Health Trainer

Program Overview


The Certified Environmental, Safety & Health Trainer (CET) is a certification held by those with experience and expertise in developing, designing, and delivering safety, health and environmental training.

The CET:

  • Measures an individual’s knowledge of the theory and practice of basic adult education.
  • Confirms knowledge and experience in the SH&E specialty area(s) in which they teach.

Eligibility and Examination

To be eligible for the CET, candidates have conducted at least 135 delivery hours of teaching or training in any SH&E specialty and hold one of the following BCSP-approved SH&E credentials:

  • Measures an individual’s knowledge of the theory and practice of basic adult education.
  • Confirms knowledge and experience in the SH&E specialty area(s) in which they teach.
  • Associate Safety Professional (ASP)
  • Certified Safety Professionals (CSP)
  • Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST)
  • Graduate Safety Practitioner (GSP)
  • Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST)
  • Safety Management Specialist (SMS)
  • Safety Trained Supervisor (STS)
  • Safety Trained Supervisor Construction (STSC)
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professionals (CRSP)
  • Certified Dangerous Goods Professional (CDGP)
  • Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS)
  • Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM)
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
  • Certified Safety Engineer (CSE) issued by State Administration of Work Safety (SAWS) Government of the People’s Republic of China
  • Chartered Member of Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (CMIOSH)
  • India - Diploma/Certificate in Industrial Safety, as issued by the State Government Departments/Boards of Technical Education, Government of India (requires a copy of the diploma and marksheet be submitted to BCSP)
  • Italy - Master in Occupational Safety and Health from University of Turin, Italy and the International Training Centre of the International Labour Organization (ITC-ILO)
  • Member of Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria (MISPN)
  • NEBOSH - International Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (requires a copy of the diploma be submitted to BCSP)
  • NEBOSH - National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (requires a copy of the diploma be submitted to BCSP)
  • Professional Member of the Singapore Institute of Safety Officers (SISO)

To achieve the CET certification a candidate must meet all of the eligibility requirements and pass the examination.

The eligibility period to take the CET examination is one (1) year from the application approval date.

To retain the CET certification, individuals must:

  • Pay an annual renewal fee.
  • Meet Recertification requirements.
